REAAA Mino Best Project Award: Notes (2016-2020)

The Mino Best Project Award was established in 2016 to recognise outstanding road and/or bridge projects which have recently been constructed in the Asian and Australasia region. The Mino fund was donated by the late Mr Sadamu Mino, who was the Association’s 10th President from 1998 to 2000.

Outstanding road and/or bridge projects which have recently been constructed in the Asian and Australasia region are eligible for consideration for the Mino Best Project Award. The Award will be presented to the owners of road and/or bridge projects selected by the Mino Best Project Award Committee from the nominated candidates.

There are two categories:

  1. high-volume road
  2. community road

In order to be considered for the Award, nominated projects must meet the following conditions:

 

  • Category I (high-volume road) – high-volume expressways/major highways which contribute to the economic and social development in the region.
  • Category II (community road) – community and rural roads which contribute to community and social development in the local region.
  • Only projects which have been constructed in Asia and Australasia are eligible for consideration.
  • Nominated projects must have been completed between August 2016 and July 2020 (for 4 years prior to the deadline of nomination).
  • Both members of REAAA and non-members can nominate a project. However, all nominations must be lodged by a member of the REAAA Governing Council.
  • The Awards will be presented to the owners of the winning projects during the 16th REAAA Conference, to be held in Manila, Philippines, in March 2021.

 

Nominated projects will be evaluated by the Mino Best Project Award Committee based on the following criteria:

 

  • economic benefit to the community compared to the cost of the project – stimulation of economic growth, improvements in lifestyle, amenity, etc.
  • impact on traffic flow –reduced congestion, delays, etc.
  • impact on road safety – reduced road trauma (fatalities, injuries, etc.).

 

  • innovation in design, construction, materials quality, etc.
  • problem solving
  • cost-effectiveness
  • environmental impact during and after construction
  • reduced greenhouse gas emissions, etc.
  • economic benefit to the community compared to the cost of the project – stimulation of economic growth, lifestyle, amenity, etc. at the local level
  • impact on traffic flow – improved traffic flow, reduced congestion, delays, etc.
  • impact on road safety – reduced road trauma (fatalities, injuries, etc.)

 

  • innovation in design, construction, materials quality, including the use of local, non-standard, materials, etc.
  • problem solution
  • cost effectiveness
  • environmental impact during and after construction
  • reduced greenhouse gas emissions, etc.

Candidate projects will be evaluated according to the accompanying Project Evaluation Form.

Candidate projects for the REAAA Mino Best Project Award must be nominated using the Nomination Form. The nomination must include:

 

  • A completed nomination form (select category I or II)
  • A project summary (<500 words)
  • Statements addressing the evaluation criteria, which the Mino Best Project Award Committee will use to evaluate candidate projects.

REAAA Mino Best Project Award (2016-2020) Nomination Form

Candidate projects for the REAAA Mino Best Project Award must be nominated using this nomination form.

The nomination must include:

  • A completed nomination form (select category I or II)
  • A project summary (<500 words)
  • Statements addressing the following criteria, which the Mino Best Project Award Committee will use to evaluate candidate projects:

a-1:   International and/or national economic development (<200 words)
Economic benefits compared to the cost of the project: stimulation of economic growth, improvement in lifestyle, amenity, etc.

a-2:   Improvement in traffic flow (<200 words)
Reduced congestion, delays, etc.

a-3:   Improvement in road safety (<200 words)
Reduced road trauma (fatalities, injuries, etc.).

The development and implementation of innovative design and construction methods and the cost savings associated with the use of these innovations compared to traditional design and construction approaches.

Minimization of the impact of the project on the lifestyle of the local community (land acquisition, noise, greenhouse gas emissions, etc.).

a-1:   Economic development of community and rural (<200 words)
Economic benefits compared to the cost of the project: stimulation of economic growth, local employment, improvement in lifestyle, amenity, etc.

a-2:   Improvement in traffic flow (<200 words)
Improved access, reduced travel time

a-3: Improvement in road safety (<200 words)
Reduced road trauma (fatalities, injuries, etc.).

The adaptation of traditional design and construction methods for low-cost community roads operating under limited budgets

Minimization of the impact of the project on the lifestyle of the local community (land acquisition, noise, greenhouse gas emissions, etc.).

  • Microsoft PowerPoint® presentation, including photographs, drawings, diagrams, videos, or additional explanation material. The presentation should be limited to 30 slides or less. All files should be compressed into a single ZIP archive and should be sent via email (<5 MB).
