The 90^th Meeting of REAAA Governing Council was held on April 6^th, 2010 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The meeting was chaired by the REAAA President for the 14^th Council Term, Dato’ Sri Ir. Dr. Judin Abdul Karim. The meeting saw the presentation of the “wish list” report from the Pre-Council Meeting held in Jakarta, Indonesia, on 19 – 21 March 2010. The REAAA Strategy Map & Initiatives 2010-2012, was later formed from the basis of the “wish list”.

As a result, a set of new initiatives and KPIs were developed with several coordinators appointed for each of the initiatives as shown in the proceeding table. The REAAA Secretariat had contacted to all Chapters and member countries invited them as the ownership of the various initiatives.  Each coordinator had required to prepare a progress report for the council meetings.

Australia was given the honor to coordinate the setting up of the technical sub-committee. This sub-committee will cover specific topics and chaired by selected member countries. The chair-country and topics identified are as follows:

• • Korea- Network Management
  • Japan- Foundation and Pavement
  • The Philippines- Road Furniture
  • Australia- Asset Management
  • Indonesia – Safety
  • Singapore- Green Technologies
  • Malaysia- Public/Private Partnership
  • New Zealand- Structure and Bridge

The sub-committee activities will encompass the following items within the framework of the selected topics with a target of one publication or seminar or conference per year until the year 2012:

• • Set and provide standards & guidelines
  • Technology transfer
  • Collaboration with PIARC.

Working with each member country, Indonesia was given the responsibility to enhance the membership through membership drive activities. The target set was 10% increase annually until the year 2012 with a 5% increase target for Malaysia.

In addition, each country was entrusted to enhance the revenue by means of attracting advertisement in the newsletters, journals, technical reports and websites. The Philippines was the Coordinator for this activity with each member country setting their own targets to achieve.

An information manager will be elected from each member country to produce the knowledge portal and develop the database of the industry and members. Malaysia was coordinated this effort to leverage on the ICT. It is targeting to complete the approval of the framework this year. A separate meeting between the Secretariat and the industry representatives was held to ensure this materialized by Dec 2010.

Australia meanwhile will be heading the young professional outreach program. It is aim for young professional with three programs planned per year. The activities will include the setting up of training, staff exchange and transfer and incentives guidelines by each member country.

The meeting also saw each member unanimously agreeing on all the items raised by The President, Dato’ Sri Ir. Dr. Judin.  The President expressed the hope that member countries would intensify efforts to attract more members, especially Institutional Members and young engineers. In addition he would like to see each country undertake to provide information regularly upon request, for the benefit of the members and as a way to attract more new members.  This will project REAAA as an active and relevant Association in the region. He suggested that HORA should look at becoming a platform at the ministerial level, especially in terms of assisting developing countries to identify activities or projects.There should be more active involvement with other international bodies such as ADB, gTKP and PIARC to jointly carry out regional activities and programs such as regional conferences, seminars and exhibitions.
